Alan was born in the back-woods regions of Polk County, Florida where he was raised in the same house for most of his life. He attended Lakeland Christian School from kindergarten through high school. Even though Alan went to a Christian school for his entire young life he did not become a believer until 18 years old. If asked before this time if he wanted to know anything about Christ he would boldly state that he didn’t care about religion.
Obviously, becoming a believer changed things for Alan as he went on to attend Southeastern University (formerly Southeastern College), graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Theology and a minor in Psychology. In his final year at Southeastern, Alan took a trip to Central African Republic which served to flame the missionary embers which had been glowing for so long. Shortly after graduating from Southeastern, Alan married his beautiful wife, Tywonn, and they continued to live in Lakeland while Tywonn finished her registered nurse degree. They, then, moved to North Carolina where Alan continued his education at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary graduating with a master’s degree in Counseling. The reason Alan strived for this particular degree was because he wants to provide counseling services to missionaries, missionary kids, and expatriates overseas. Once Alan finished with his degree, he and Tywonn moved back to Florida where he worked at two private practices and became a licencsed counselor in the State of Florida in 2007. Other than Alan’s passion for missions, Alan is an adventurer at heart as he loves to travel in his Volkswagen bus, go fishing on the Suwannee River, or watch sports. |
